1D pupils visited the Lobau on Monday in the hope of seeing the beaver „Flumy“ who lives there. Although he was nowhere to be seen, the children were able to see his habitat and to enjoy a pleasant walk along the river and through the woods. Highlights of the day included crossing a stream using „stepping stones“ (with some members of the group getting wet feet in the process!), and later a beaver fact-finding mission in two teams. Pupils had to run back and forth to information boards to answer questions, in the process learning a lot about the homes beavers build for themselves, how old they are when they mate, and how they can be important for humans. It gave 1D the chance to get to know their classmates and teachers better, learn about beavers and have a good workout in the process!
