This season got off to a thrilling start today (16.11.2015) at the Kagran sports hall. Konstanziagasse 50 stormed to an early victory in the first match against the Komensky School at Sebastianplatz, with a hat-trick from Can Özdemir and two goals apiece from Alex Krammer and George Cozma securing an impressive 7-2 win.

The Kaisermühlen Sports Middle School proved to be much stiffer opposition, but a combative and determined display from Konstanziagasse 50 meant that the game remained highly competitive, with the scores level until the final few minutes. Our boys couldn't quite withstand the late pressure which Kaisermühlen piled on, falling to a 6-2 defeat which did not reflect the true nature of the game. Can Özdemir found the target for Konstanziagasse 50 with a wonderful strike, with Alex Krammer also scoring for Konstanziagasse 50.

Victory versus the gritty Kagran New Middle School in the Afritschgasse in the final game proved to be a tougher task than expected. Yet to pick up a win, Afritschgasse were determined not to go home empty handed. They were leading 2-1 until the final minutes, and despite withstanding a barrage of Ko50 attacks led by Can Özdemir and Alex Krammer, were unable to keep out a sensational strike by goalkeeper Batu Buzluk from inside his own half!

With the match tied at 2-2, it was a nerve-wracking penalty shootout which would decide the winner. After Afritschgasse scored from their first spot-kick, more drama followed when team captain Haci Ali Öz - who had given his all throughout the matches - had his spot-kick blocked by the Afritschgasse goalie. Hope was not lost though, for in the next moment he was ordered to retake the kick as the keeper had moved from his line too early! This time captain Haci Ali put the ball where it belonged - in the back of the net.

With goalkeeper Batu Buzluk on form and blocking two Afritschgasse penalties, it was Roy Shnaiderman who was able to secure the win. Roy feinted right and then shot firmly to the left, beating the keeper and resulting in a 2-1 victory on penalties for Konstanziagasse 50!

Finishing second in the group with a positive goal difference means the Konstanziagasse 50 squad – which today consisted of 14 players from the 4th class who all played their part - has a chance to progress to the next phase of the tournament. We excitedly await knowledge of the final standings in other groups which will now determine whether Konstanziagasse 50’s footballers can advance.

Thanks to the organisers, congratulations to the players and to Mr Zetthofer for ensuring players were in top shape and playing good, competitive football!
