1D this week enjoyed a visit to the Blumengärten Hirschstetten – which, amidst a captivating display of flowers and colourful Christmas decorations, offers interesting insights into a variety of Christmas delicacies, fairy-tales and traditions. Pupils learnt about the history of some of these foods, spices and Christmas customs by making their way through the exhibition in groups, reading from the information boards and answering questions prepared by Mrs Rehm. Whilst learning about Christmas and its many associations, pupils were able to practise their reading and team-work skills in a fun and fascinating environment.
After their reading task, 1D pupils were allowed to explore the Christmas markets outside and purchase Christmas treats if they wished. The trip ended with a look inside the palm house, where the children could see monkeys, snakes, turtles and other reptiles. It was a unique experience and one which they will no doubt hope to repeat one day in the future – and it certainly made everyone excited for the festive season!
